Four active petitions relevant to LAI harms – sign if you can.

1. Require Black Box Warnings to Explicitly Name Akathisia: This petition calls for the word “akathisia” to be explicitly added to black box warnings on medications that can cause it. Akathisia is a severe, often unrecognized neuropsychiatric movement disorder tied to suicidality and homicidality. Without clear labeling, many people don’t recognize the symptoms until it escalates. In one Facebook support group alone, over 100 members have taken their own lives since 2014.

2. Protect Our Most Vulnerable: In memory of her mother Brenda, who died after being given a 970 mg injection of Invega—far exceeding the FDA‑approved maximum of 234 mg—Heather McNeal is advocating for the McNeal Mental Health Patient Protection Act. The Act would ban overmedication beyond FDA guidelines without double‑physician approval, enforce due process before psychiatric commitments, mandate informed consent for Black Box medications, and penalize facilities for violations. Heather writes: “Her death was not inevitable, it was preventable. Her life mattered. Her death must bring change!”

3. Cassandra Fameux – a Haitian Immigrant Chemically Tortured and Denied Justice: Cassandra was injected with Invega Sustenna for nearly a decade despite not having schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. She survived but has suffered a brain tumor, heart condition requiring a loop monitor implant, diabetes and infertility as a result of the monthly injections. This petition calls for accountability and legal action.

4. Petition for Change in the Mental Health System and Psychopharmacology: Drafted by Rich (in his 5th year of protracted withdrawal) and Amanda (in her 3rd year), this global petition seeks to raise awareness of severe consequences from psychiatric medication use and withdrawal—including protracted withdrawal syndrome, akathisia, PSSD, tardive dyskinesia, and others. Rich notes that signatures have slowed and they need a few more to support their next mailing to decision makers and the media. “By using our collective voice, we can help bring about the changes so desperately needed in our mental health system.”
